The Express Entry (EE) system is a three-stage active immigration process. Applicants first submit an EE form online and are then placed in a pool with other qualified applicants. Only candidates who receive an invitation letter can then proceed to apply for permanent residence.
Express Entry applicants are required to submit a complete electronic application for permanent residence (e-APR) within 60 calendar days of being issued an invitation to apply (ITA) The application and all supporting documents must be submitted electronically through the applicant’s online account. The Express Entry 6-month processing standard begins when the application is submitted.
Express Entry manages applications for permanent residence under these federal economic immigration programs:
- the Federal Skilled Worker Program
- the Federal Skilled Trades Program
- the Federal Skilled Trades Program
Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from Express Entry through their Provincial Nominee Programs to meet local labour market needs.
